David Campbell, assistant principal at Wesmere Elementary School, is the new principal at Freedom Elementary School.
The Board of Education approved his hiring at its May 15, 2024 regular meeting. His starts his new role on July 1.
Campbell will replace Laurie Boyce-Fischer who is retiring.
Campbell has spent his career in District 202 beginning in 2008.
He spent 11 years as a fifth-grade teacher at Elizabeth Eichelberger Elementary School before moving to administration.
Campbell served as an interim assistant principal at Lincoln and Eichelberger elementary schools before becoming the full-time assistant principal at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
A principal can influence the growth of a school community, Campbell said.
“I am drawn to Freedom due to its dedication to student-centered learning,” he said.
“I am inspired by the opportunity to collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals, engage with supportive parents and community members, and lead initiatives that will positively impact the lives of our students.”
Campbell’s administrative experience will help him continue the great things happening at Freedom, said Dr Scott Fink, District 202 Director of Administration and Personnel for Elementary schools.
“David's personality, sense of family, and positive outlook will serve the Freedom community well,” Fink said.
