District 202 employee and illustrator Nader Batayeh created a poster to celebrate Black History Month in February.

Batayeh is a permanent building substitute at Freedom Elementary School. He was asked by staff there to create a poster for Black History Month.

“I decided on a design, but instead of just coloring it in, I decided it can be a learning tool,” Batayeh said.

Batayeh began researching the names of African American leaders in different fields. He added those names and the roles they played in making America a better place, he said.

“I began adding names but realized I didn’t know many besides the ones taught in elementary school, like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks,” Batayeh said.

We are #202proud of Nader Batayeh for sharing his artwork with District 202.

What a day! The 73rd Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade filled downtown with music, school spirit, and community pride this past weekend!

This year’s theme, “Literary Legends – Celebrating Famous Characters from the Last 100 Years,” honored the Plainfield Area Public Library’s centennial. Leading the parade was Grand Marshal Mindy Jackson, the library’s School Services Librarian, who has spent decades inspiring a love of reading in District 202 students. 📚✨

A wonderful tradition for decades, the parade once again showcased the energy, talent, and pride of our schools and community.

🎉 Big news from Ms. López’s class! 🎉 Today our class got to help Mr. Mike raise Freedom’s new flag! The students were so excited to be part of this special moment. 🇺🇸 Mr. Mike even shared some cool fun facts about flags and their history while we worked together, which made the experience even more engaging. The class loved learning and being hands-on with something so important for our school!
